Go and Do

During Holy Week 2023 I heard a sermon that looked at the  stories about Jesus cleansing the Temple. In the sermon we were challenged to go about cleansing our own temples. Sadly for the first time I came to realize that the stories in Scripture of what Jesus did were not just recounting of events but were included to be applied to our own lives. That in every story we are to find the person in the story that we are. Chances are that we will fit in the story in more than one place. And from this discern God's message for us in  story.

Sadly our tendency when we read Scripture is to skip over the stories of Jesus. Partly I think this is because they are so familiar. And partly because we give greater importance to what Jesus said rather than what He did. Slightly less than half of the Gospel message contains the words of Jesus (Daniel). Which means that if we do not give the same weight to the stories of Jesus we miss half of the Gospel message. With all the stories that are included there are many more stories that could have been included. (John 21:25) Guide by the Holy Spirit these specific stories were included in the Gospels because they contain within them a personal, individual and unique message for each of us. Scripture is called the LIVING word of God because it is not just stories about bygone events but rather every word of it speaks fresh and new to us each time we read it, study it, or hear it ... if we are paying attention.

The overwhelming message of the New Testament from Jesus to Jude is "Go and do."

And so the primary mission of this ministry is to sow the Gospel message of God's love and hope of salvation by loving others through acts of service.

"But there are also many other things which Jesus did, which, if they were written in detail, I expect that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written." - John 21:25 NASB20
